Today we will cross over to Jordan. On the way to the border, we will visit Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood town and the site of the annunciation to Mary. We will visit the great Basilica and Mary’s Well and continue to the Jordan River where we will cross over into Jordan. In Jordan we will meet our local driver and guide and drive to Jerash, the “Pompeii of the East,” which is perhaps the best preserved of the provincial Roman towns. Around its colonnaded main street, see the Cardo, South Theatre, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Artemis Temple and the Nymphaeum. The city’s 14 churches date from Byzantine time and are filled with fine mosaics. Then we will drive to Amman, known as Rabbath Ammon and Philadelphia in Biblical times. See the remains of the Roman Theatre, the Archeological Museum and the Citadel containing the remains of the massive Temple of Hercules. Tonight you will spend a unique evening on the Dead Sea.
